"Topkapi"
|
Topkapi is dedicated to the Topkapi Scroll that resides at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. This rare 16th century ancient blueprint for geometric design in Islamic architecture and ornament was discovered in 1986. The Topkapi Scroll, consisting of 114 drawings, is one of the only extant "primers" for the core language of Islamic tilings. The geometries of these abstract designs and tessellations, also referred to as "arabesques" were thought to be the "gateway to spiritual wisdom." Porcelainia, deeply inspired the language of arabesque, brings together in three dimensional curvature, the same rhythmic, symmetrical elements that define the beautiful works of Islamic art.
