"Emiliania" |
"Emiliania" - short for Emiliania huxleyi celebrates the beauty and ubiquity of one of the planet's most important phytoplankton - microscopic spherical coccolithopores in the worlds oceans. Billions of these almost invisible organisms aggregate into massive blooms on the oceans surface that sometimes grow as large as England. The Emiliania huxleyi blooms have a huge effect on our water and the atmosphere and actually regulate global temperature. These photosynthesising single-celled creatures have a beautifully geometric structure as their round coccolith platelets distribute themselves symmetrically on the spherical surface. This vessel, with a truncated octahedral interior and exterior surface, is dedicated to the blooms of these exquisitely beautiful coccospheres that are such an important part of our ecosystem. "Emiliania" was on exhibit at St. Joseph Galerie, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands and sold.
