Although the golden mean was attributed to Pythagoras it is far more likely that Theano was the mother of the divine proportion. Married to Pythagoras in his later years, she went on to run the Pythagorean school in Athens, Greece in the 5th century, B.C. Known as the most famous cosmologist of the time, Theano wrote numerous treatises on mathematics, physics and medicine.
