CHUNG-LI CH'UAN
[Zhuan Zhongli]

Chung-li Ch'uan lived in the Zhou dynasty, 1122-249 B.C. and represents a military man. His emblems are a fan of feathers or peach of immortality. As is the Chief of the Eight Immortals, he possessed the Elixir of Life and powers of transmutation. He is often depicted as a fat man carrying a peach, symbolizing longevity. In his hand he grasps his emblem, a fan indicating a delicacy of feeling, which is said to help him revive the souls of the dead. The fan Chung Li Ch'uan carries indicates delicacy of feeling, and the peach symbolizes longevity.
