HO HSIEN-KU
[He Xiangu]

Ho Hsien-Ku is the Patroness of Housewives. Her emblem is the lotus blossom and she represents unmarried girls. She was the daughter of a 7th century A.D. shopkeeper of Lingling, Hunan. According to legend, Ho Hsien-Ku ate a supernatural peach and became a fairy. She wandered alone in the hills living on a diet of crushed mother of pearl and moonbeams. She is sometimes portrayed as standing on a lotus petal and occasionally is depicted with a peach or sheng reed-organ.
