THE EIGHT CHINESE IMMORTALS
Lan Ts'ai Ho is the Patron Saint of Florists and Protector of Horticulture. Her emblem is the lute and she represents the poor. From 700 - 800 A.D., Lan Ts’ai Ho was known to be both a woman and a hermaphrodite. She wandered the country waving a wand and denouncing this fleeting life and its delusive pleasures. She is portrayed in the form of a woman or a young boy; a strolling singer carrying a basket of flowers or a flute.
